Thayyeni and Thayyeni Hill Top
Thayyeni is a hilly area. It was populated by Adivasis in the early days. A folk dance known as ‘theyyam kettu’ was very important for the adivasis. Thayyeni was a center of ‘theyyam kettu’ and the name ‘Theyyeni’ originated from that. Thayyeni is 6 k. m. away from Palavayal. The early migration took place in 1958. There were about 30 migrated families in this area by 1965. Thayyeni is a small beautiful town situated at the North Eastern part of kerala boardering Karnataka. Its a lovely place full of fun loving and caring people.
Lourd Matha Church, Thayyeni , which comes under the Archdiocese of Tellicheri, is situated near to Karnataka forest in East Elleri Panchayath ,in the district of Kasargod, Kerala. This parish, which is named after Lourd Matha, has 300 Catholic families and 1500 parishners. This parish has a filial church, named as Holy Family Church, having 30 families on the hill top at Athiyadukam. Lourd Matha Church, Thayyeni was established as the filial church of Palavayal Church in 1966. It was raised to a parish on May 01, 1982. The first Holy Mass was offered by Rev. Fr. Philip Murinjakallel. The construction of the new church was completed during the tenure of Rev. Fr. George Arikunnel. There is a beautiful grotto near Thayyeni town. The feast of patroness Lourd Matha is celebrated on the second week of February ever year.
